When it comes to which skin care to use before or after a cosmetic treatment, we know that Alastin tops the list with their Regenerating Skin Nectar, INhance Post-Injection Serum and their TransFrom Body Treatment which helps boost nonsurgical body-contouring results. It’s no wonder then that their latest innovation is another perfect pairing for common body-sculpting surgeries like liposuction, tummy tucks, breast reductions, thigh lifts and body contouring surgeries.
What It Is
Alastin’s new ReFORM & RePAIR COMPLEX ($220) takes its cues from each of the brand’s standout products and targets inflammation, swelling, bruising and tissue healing to make the recovery experience more comfortable for the patient, faster and easier to undergo.
“What we anticipated when we were developing this new product is that it will improve the swelling, bruising and one area called fibrous banding, which is really important in recovery because when you get inflammation with liposuction, an abdominoplasty or with a breast reduction, once you get deep inflammation it gets converted into scar tissue, which contributes to the patient feeling an uncomfortable tightness when stretching out the arms and legs,” explains Alastin’s chief medical officer Dr. Alan Widgerow.
What It Does
“I observed within a multi-center study that the ReFORM & RePAIR COMPLEX topical treatment improved the patient experience following surgical breast and body contouring procedures by accelerating recovery from surgery in terms of the key issues patients are worried about, such as decreasing bruising, swelling, soft tissue and skin induration, and fibrous banding,” says Chicago plastic surgeon Laurie Casas, MD. “Because of the reduced recovery time, patients are ready to schedule their next procedure.”
How It Works
In addition to the brand’s TriHex Technology which supports the production of collagen and elastin, the proteins responsible for keeping skin smooth and firm, this body treatment also includes Hexapeptide 11, which helps to clear out lipid droplets that Dr. Widgerow says are released when fat-reduction surgeries are performed.
“We also have lactoferrin, which absorbs irons,” adds Dr. Widgerow. “This helps with infection and with bruising. Centella asiatica extract also helps regulate collagen production to minimize scarring.”
When to Use It
The ReFORM & RePAIR COMPLEX treatment is available now at doctor’s offices and on Alastin’s website. For best results, the treatment is intended to be used on the area before surgery as a pre-conditioning treatment, during recovery and beyond. “We recommend twice a day, in the morning and evening is best, because it works while you’re sleeping and it also works while you are active,” says Dr. Widgerow.
