If you’re one of those people who could do without the taste of coffee, but you want the energy boost in the morning (or even before a big night out), you won’t want to miss this.

A new “wearable caffeine” bracelet called Joule (a joule is a unit of energy, hence the name), is creating major buzz online. It looks like a typical rubber athletic bracelet, but functions much differently. It features an FDA-approved transdermal caffeine patch (it works kind of like a nicotine patch) to deliver the stimulant into your bloodstream over the course of four hours. Equivalent to about one cup of coffee, each patch is sweat-proof, hypoallergenic and made with natural ingredients so it won’t irritate your skin. Needless to say, we haven’t seen anything like this before.

It sounds like a genius idea—no coffee breath in the morning, or worrying about staining your teeth. Plus, the creators say that it also helps people avoid that jittery feeling that often comes with drinking coffee because it’s more evenly absorbed by the body instead of all at once as it goes through the digestive system. They also give credit to MD’s and PhD’s for the science behind the formulation and delivery system, which claims to be “extremely safe” as long as correct concentrations are used.
Each Joule Starter Kit (a bracelet and 30 patches) retails for $29—there is also a watch version for $75—and will start shipping to customers in July.
So, are you as anxious to try it as we are?
