A mustache is a statement-making facial hair look you can style dozens of ways. With all the options out there you could begin to feel like the Wooly Willy toy trying different looks out. While there are endless possibilities one mustache style is the most popular in America by a landslide—the beardstache.
Recently experts at Ruffians Barbershop analyzed the average number of monthly Google searches for 25 mustache styles and their related search terms between August 2023 and August 2024 to pinpoint the most popular look. The data showed that the beardstache “a combination of a beard, either full or stubble, paired with a longer style mustache” was by far the most popular mustache style in the U.S. with 94,271 average monthly searches. The experts point to Henry Cavill as a popular example.
The goatee was the runner-up with 12,828 monthly searches. “A Goatee is a small, pointy beard that covers the upper lip and chin without growth on the cheeks or neck. A regular Goatee has hair growth just from the chin, but the style has evolved to feature a circular shape, with the hair from the chin and upper lip joining together,” they explain. “The name traditionally refers to the tufts of hair resembling a goat chin.” They note that Leonardo DiCaprio and Will Smith have often sported goatees throughout their careers.
In third place is the iconic Chevron mustache, a thick, full style angled down towards the corners of the mouth. Its name comes from the Chevron logo, which, when flipped, could resemble the look. Freddie Mercury and Tom Selleck are some of the poster boys for this stache. The horseshoe mustache and walrus mustache round out the top five.
