If late-night Netflix binges have you tossing and turning, LG—the brand behind some of the top-selling televisions in the entertainment space— might have the solution. The company recently announced that its entire lineup of OLED TV and monitor panels—spanning 27 to 97 inches—has officially become the first in the world to receive Eyesafe® Circadian Certification, awarded by global ophthalmologists and optometrists. Translation: these screens are designed to reduce blue light exposure, which is notorious for messing with your body’s melatonin production, disrupting your body’s internal clock and thus sabotaging a good night’s sleep.
LG’s OLED panels emit just 36% blue light, the lowest in the industry, without compromising the crystal-clear picture quality or vibrant, rich colors you’d expect. Even more impressive? According to Eyesafe’s Circadian Protection Factor (CPF) rating system, LG’s OLED screens scored the highest possible rating—CPF 50—making them the gentlest option for melatonin levels compared to other TVs on the market.
The science backs it up, too. In July, LG partnered with Kookmin University in Seoul to conduct a clinical trial that revealed watching LG OLED screens in the evening led to an 8.1% increase in melatonin secretion. By comparison, participants watching mini LED screens experienced a 2.7% decrease. (Stay with me!) The increase in melatonin secretion among LG OLED viewers shows that reduced blue light helps maintain a healthy circadian rhythm. On the flip side, the decrease among mini LED viewers stresses how higher blue light exposure can disrupt melatonin levels, likely making it harder to fall asleep when your show’s over.
All of this to say: Better sleep might just start with smarter screens. We’re excited to see how innovations like these continue to prioritize sleep and eye health in the future—and whether LG has any exciting deals on its OLED lineup this Black Friday.
