Bangs are back, as declared by Jennifer Lawrence. The 34-year-old actress stepped out with a freshly cut fringe at the Zurwaski V Texas documentary premiere during the 2024 AFI Fest at TCL Chinese Theatre on October 23—and we couldn’t share the news fast enough. It’s been years since The Hunger Games alum rocked bangs as full as these, and we’re already anticipating the ripple effect her hair transformation has on anyone considering taking the plunge themselves.
Her go-to hairstylist, Gregory Russell, a Pureology global artistic ambassador, was behind the look. He posted about his client’s new hairstyle on his Instagram grid, giving them a look at Lawrence’s signature blonde with her new fringe, which he slightly parted in the middle and cut so they blended seamlessly into her long, face-framing layers. The style strikes the perfect balance between the soft, airy feel of curtain bangs and the structured fullness of a classic fringe.
If Lawrence’s bangs have you considering a trip to the salon (same), you’re in good company this fall. A few weeks back, celebrity hairstylist Johnny Lavoy recently spoke with NewBeauty and confirmed that bangs are trending this season. He said they can “drastically change a hairstyle and also help enhance facial features.”
But before booking that appointment, Lavoy recommends considering a few factors: “Consider your hair texture, face shape and your end goal—the shorter the bang, the longer the grow out. For curly hair textures, I suggest longer bangs. For normal to thicker hair types, a Birkin bang works great. Longer lengths look amazing with a curtain bang—it’s a great way to add that flirtatiousness and versatility to long, layered styles. Baby bangs look cool and edgy on shorter, finer hair textures, like pixies and shags.“
