Rihanna was unveiled as the new face of Dior’s iconic J’Adore fragrance this past June, and fans—including us—have been eagerly awaiting her campaign debut. And now that the first image has dropped, we can confidently say it was worth the wait.
Vogue was the first to unveil the campaign teaser (see it here!), captured by renowned photographer Steven Klein. In the now-circulating image, Rihanna glows in a golden hue that perfectly mirrors her favorite perfume. She wears a pearl statement necklace that echoes the design of the bottle she’s cherished for years.
IIn celebration of the campaign’s release, the Fenty Beauty founder shared with Vogue the special connection her family—especially her mother, Monica—has with J’Adore. “She used to always bring home the J’adore testers when they were almost empty, so there was always a bottle in the house,” Rihanna recalled. “I have always loved this perfume.”
Since its launch in 1999, J’Adore has remained a beauty industry favorite, adored for its timeless fruity-floral scent. “Being the new face of J’adore is both an honor and a mission,” the hitmaker said in a previous interview with Business of Fashion. “I am especially looking forward to joining this adventure and contributing to it through my world, my story, my roots, as well as my creativity and my own femininity.”
Rihanna stepped into the role previously held by Charlize Theron, who has transitioned to being a skin care and jewelry ambassador for the luxury label. It’s a fitting partnership, given Rihanna’s history with Dior. In 2015, she became the first Black ambassador for the French fashion house, followed by the launch of her Dior sunglasses collection in 2016. She’s also a front-row regular at Dior’s fashion shows.
“We are incredibly proud to welcome Rihanna into the Dior family,” Véronique Courtois, CEO of Parfums Christian Dior, said in a June statement announcing their revived partnership. “Her golden dream promises to be unique, reflecting a fragrance that is present for women, and retains its radiance. The unusual talent, audacity, and captivating beauty of this absolute star are the ideal embodiment of dazzling, powerful Dior femininity that transcends generations. Christian Dior would most definitely have adored her.”
Rihanna’s full J’Adore campaign is set to officially drop on September 1, and we can’t wait to see more—but for now, the teaser has us completely mesmerized.
