What Makes Sabrina Carpenter’s Hair So Iconic?

From cut to color to style, Sabrina Carpenter’s hair is a masterclass in Old Hollywood elegance. Part of the reason her look is so perfect for her is the balance of her face shape.

“Sabrina has a fairly wide forehead,” explains creative director, master stylist and colorist Paul Labrecque with Paul Labrecque Salon and Skincare Spa, “So, her bangs help narrow that width.”

“She has a heart shaped face so these bangs are very flattering on her,” adds expert stylist Danielle Priano. “It gives her a modern Brigitte Bardot vibe.”

The angelic, smooth styling turns out to be an intentional nod to the album, Short n’ Sweet, which debuted last year. “The hairstyles that we have chosen go with the vibe of the album,” her stylist Scott King told People. “It’s about love and heartbreak, so we wanted her hair to be very romantic to match that.”

How to Ask for the Cut

There are two factors at play in Sabrina Carpenter’s hair that make her look a standout. The first is her iconic bangs. And while you might be tempted to grab the nearest pair of scissors and start chopping, her bangs aren’t the result of straight, blunt cut.

“If your stylist is unfamiliar with Sabrina Carpenter’s bangs, I would ask for shorter curtain bangs with wispy pieces and a soft texture,” says celebrity hairstylist and Balmain Hair ambassador, Gonn Kinoshita.

“Curtain bangs work for every face type, but what it really depends on, is the length!” says Matrix celebrity stylist Castillo Bataille. “Short and sweet (no pun intended!) curtain bangs are great if you have a diamond, heart, or long face because of the width it adds. The added dimension helps balance out the stronger features on your face. For those with a longer or rounder face, it’s best to create a more romantic moment with longer curtain bangs. This will help accentuate the cheekbones and eyes.”

Second, the overall cut combines layers for dimension and volume. “Her style is called a butterfly cut,” expert stylist Danielle Priano explains. “Additionally, I would request layered curtain bangs to complete the look.”

How to Style the Look

Sabrina Carpenter’s hair is all about the romance, a balance of volume and touchable soft movement. This is achieved through a classic blowout, using nourishing heat protectants and a soothing hair balm to limit flyaways. And depending on your hair, her bangs can be particularly tricky.

“Be careful when it comes to any jumpy hairlines,” advises Labrecque, “as this can sometimes make it very hard to blow out your bangs, even for those with decent hair skills.”

Kinoshita recommends adding a texturizing spray to help lock the look in place.

“There are a few ways to achieve a bang like hers,” Kinoshita says. “I would separate the bang hair and blow dry it backward then place a velco roller to help set it. Spritz with a Balmain Hair Texturizing Volume Spray which helps build volume but also secures the style in place. After cooling down bring hair forward and shake out with your hands.”
