Lionel Richie’s new signature fragrance, Easy Like Sunday Morning, just launched at HSN and—you guessed it—the fresh and cozy sugared-musk and sandalwood scent “celebrates a perfect morning.” We recently caught up with Richie, who shared how his songs connect to the formulas he creates and what self-care looks like to him.
What gave you the idea for this fragrance launch?
My song “Easy Like Sunday Morning” was a turning point in my life and career; I wanted to express that moment and feeling again—this time through fragrance. Creating that emotional feeling through scent.
What makes it different?
My songs are like children to me—all are different, but equally interesting. Whereas my first fragrance, HELLO, is an invitation, Easy Like Sunday Morning is comfy, relaxed and contented.
How many formulas did you play with to get the end result “just right?”
I worked very hard with my team to get the notes just right. We went through many different arrangements until I felt the harmony of the notes worked to convey the feelings I associate with Easy Like Sunday Morning.
Your daughter, Sofia Richie, had the wedding of the year. Did you do anything special to get ready for the big day?
It was such an incredibly special day; I like to keep my routine consistent, a bit of exercise, relaxing walks and spending time with my family, enjoying each other and celebrating a happy occasion.
Do you have any “holy grail” skin-care items you’ve used forever?
I use the Lancer Method for skin care and have for years.
What does your self-care routine look like?
For me, it starts with my garden. Plants and nature-based ingredients are an important part of any self-care formula or fitness routine. Whether I’m walking in my garden or just taking time with my music, self-care for me is about taking the time to be in the moment.
