Rachel McAdams has been one of the most iconic actresses of the last almost two decades from her roles in early 2000s staples like The Notebook and Mean Girls to her more recent endeavors like The Vow and About Time. Coming off the release of her most recent film project, Are You There God? It’s Me, Margaret, McAdams posed in a gorgeously genuine, stripped-back photoshoot as part of her sit down with Bustle, where the actress talked all things motherhood, body image and being her true self.
In a shot for Bustle, McAdams is seen lounging beautifully on a velvet couch, head thrown back in a care free manner and—most notably amongst readers—her grown out underarm hair in full view. In honor of the raw, real nature of the coming-of-age film based on Judy Blume’s 1970 novel, McAdams made a point to emphasize embracing her body regardless of age. “With this shoot, I’m wearing latex underwear. But I’ve had two children,” she begins. “This is my body, and I think that’s so important to reflect back out to the world.”
For the now 44-year-old’s shoot with Bustle, she specifically asked that the images be as minimally edited as possible, further emphasizing her commitment to constantly representing her authentic self. In fact, the last time McAdams appeared in a photoshoot was back in 2017, where she appeared in Girls. Girls. Girls. rocking a breast pump in her rockstar-mom glory. Over the years, the actress’ desire to always present herself in her truest fashion has not wavered. “I love that juxtaposition of beauty, glam, fantasy, and then truth,” she says in regards to her candid photoshoots both then and now.
