Being direct is an integral part of Dr. McNemar’s treatment style. A voluntary clinical faculty member of the Stanford Medical School Division of Plastic Surgery, this busy cosmetic and reconstructive surgeon is known for his warm bedside manner and decidedly personalized approach. “Each of my patients receives the utmost personalized attention,” he says. “My goal is to treat each individual as if he or she were my only patient.”

Balancing medical science with artistic instinct, Dr. McNemar offers aesthetic surgical solutions such as brow lifts, abdominoplasty, breast augmentation, and facelifts, along with nonsur-
gical beautifiers including Botox® and Restylane®. He is also highly skilled in Vaser® Liposuctioning—a technique that utilizes ultrasonic energy to seek and destroy fat cells. “I have found that this technique is more accurate at removing fat than traditional liposuction methods,” says Dr. McNemar. “It is easier on the tissues and results in less pain and bruising while yielding excellent results.” Building rapport with patients is important to Dr. McNemar. He spends as much time as needed to answer all questions during the initial consultation. “Communication is the key to great results.”

Inside Information
BY THE BOOK
A proponent of patient education, Dr. McNemar set out to write a definitive guide on aesthetic surgery. The book, entitled Your Complete Guide to Breast Augmentation & Body Contouring, covers the entire spectrum of breast augmentation surgery in an easy-to-read format. In his typically straight-forward fashion, Dr. McNemar addresses common questions and concerns, including saline versus silicone; scar location and visibility; types of anesthesia; and potential risks and complications. “Many people don’t realize that cosmetic surgery can extend beyond nips and tucks,” says the doctor, who has performed complex reconstruction surgery on double-mastectomy patients. “This kind of procedure can involve not only a tissue transfer from the abdomen, but also the use of implants to achieve symmetry and balance.” Dr. McNemar’s book boasts plenty of pre- and post-op photographs, and covers body-contouring mainstays such as tummy tucks and liposuction. “I wanted to provide patients with an arsenal of information,” says Dr. McNemar. “When people understand the pros and cons of cosmetic surgery, it promotes realistic expectations—and that’s good for the doctor and the patient.”
