When we think of Hailey Bieber, one of the first things to come to mind is her glowing, radiant skin. With the launch of her industry-shaping brand Rhode, Bieber pretty much put the idea of glass-skin and glazed-donut vibes on the map, and we all look up to her for healthy, shiny-skin inspiration.

In the age of social media, though, it’s easy to forget that even the celebrities we envy the most have struggles we don’t know about. Despite her legacy as someone with perfect skin, Hailey got real on TikTok yesterday about her years-long struggle with the common skin condition perioral dermatitis.

Hailey Bieber’s Perioral Dermatitis: The Rhode Founder Gets Candid

When Hailey Bieber pops up on our “for you” page, we’re used to seeing stunning glam or must-try makeup tutorials, but just yesterday the 27-year-old influencer took to TikTok with a different kind of video in hopes of spreading awareness for and normalizing the struggles of perioral dermatitis.

As Bieber explains in the text on the video, “Perioral dermatitis is a skin disorder resembling acne and rosacea. In most cases, it involves tiny red bumps that form on the lower half of the face, in the folds of the nose and around the mouth.” Bieber began by explaining that she’s struggled with perioral dermatitis since she was about 19 years old, and showcased in the video a pretty significant flare up she’s currently having in hopes of helping others who struggle with the condition.

Bieber went on to explain how she treats her POD flare ups, noting that, at night, she uses a prescription azelaic acid, which is known to be effective for treating perioral dermatitis inflammation. During the day, she uses clindamycin, “a topical antibiotic that helps stop the growth of bacteria on the skin.” Keeping it simple when her skin is acting up, Bieber says the only other products she uses during a perioral dermatitis flare up are her brand’s Glazing Milk ($30) and SPF in the daytime.
